When Melania stepped out in a sky-blue dress, by Ralph Lauren to attend the service at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Friday morning prior to the inauguration, we got the first glimpse of the soon to be First Lady, who evoked Jacquelyn Kennedy during her Camelot inauguration.
Many who are passionate about fashion and style know the style icon Jackie Kennedy. They also know that style, in the end, is a form of expression. Melania with her clothes, her monochromatic colors, the classic shoes, her makeup, and the way she styled her hair was the expression of elegance and grace. That is ultimately what the world saw.
The sky-blue double-faced cashmere dress was a creation of Ralph Lauren. Later in the day, a Ralph Lauren spokesperson said: “The Presidential Inauguration is a time for the United States to look our best to the world. It was important to us to uphold and celebrate the tradition of creating American style for this moment.”
Being dressed by an all American designer is significant for Melania, and being seen as American is important as part of her style expression. Her spokeswoman commented about her choice: “With the historic swearing-in of her husband, Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, the first lady-elect will become American’s First Lady, wearing an American designer who transformed American fashion, Ralph Lauren.”
Once again, style demonstrates how we can express so much without spoken words, and Melania surely accomplished this on inauguration day.
