The month of celebrating fashion has started today with New York Fashion Week, where designers will be presenting their collections for Spring/Summer 2016. I am always fascinated with the designers’ amazing creativity, hearing about what inspired them, and the type woman they are designing for. Here are some of my favorite designers and why I am anxious to see what they are proposing for next season!
Dona Karan
A designer that didn’t want to be a designer, nor a working mother (like her mother was). But like many of us, life creates circumstances and events that we are not planning for, and this changes the path of our lives. Dona found herself preparing an urgent collection right after giving birth, because the designer she was assisting, Anne Klein, had passed away.
She designs for the woman that is as smart and strong as a man in the business world, and in life. She designs for the woman that does not have the perfect body. She is inspired by the way people live and the essence of their soul.

Carolina Herrera
“After the show is done, I always say it could be better. If you see that whatever you do is the best, you are totally wrong, because it’s NOT!” Those are the words that came out Mrs. Herrera during an interview with John Koblin for the New York Times.
Carolina is an elegant and sophisticated woman that remains humble even after the amazing success she’s had as a fashion designer.
She designs for the woman of today, the woman that runs a family, travels, works, and has an appreciation for elegance. Her designs are for the woman who is looking for clothes that are wonderfully constructed and fit her unique body just right. Her 2015 fall collection was inspired by water. I can’t wait to see her collection for next season!

LAVIN, Albert Elbaz
Albert Elbaz, artistic director for Lavin in Paris, surprised everyone with his Fall 2015 collection. What I like about it is that he was not looking for perfection. As he said, he was intentionally trying to avoid clothing that looked perfect and smooth, like the airbrushed faces we see in magazines. He constructed a look of human made pieces, as opposed to pieces that are clearly machine made. My expectations are big for his spring/summer 2016 collection when he presents later this month in Paris.
One of the things that grabbed my attention is the human being behind the designer. I liked learning how comfortable he feels in his very personalized office, a space where he doesn’t feel fat.
