Cami is a mother of three and spends a good part of her day chasing around her one-year-old. She’s going to attend an evening wedding reception this upcoming Saturday, and the venue has a rustic feel, and she wanted some suggestions about her outfit. She has a Midi skirt, in color plum, in an A-line cut. She might pair with a white silk, gold polka dot blouse and black pumps (she loves heels!). Since she is planning on updating her wardrobe, this could be an opportunity to buy new pieces, and she is open to suggestions on building her outfit for this occasion. She wants to get pieces that are versatile, that she can use to dress up or down, camouflage areas of her body she doesn’t feel comfortable with, and that also complement her lifestyle.

I think the skirt is a great part of your outfit, and I would let the skirt be the focal piece of the outfit. Substitute the white dotted blouse for a simple black sweater with a medium scoop neck or V-neck. These two necklines are great to camouflage a big bust. For accessories, I suggest you add a pair of long, linear gold earrings to draw attention to your face. Then, add more texture to your look using a gold clutch with perforated details. To complement the feminine cut of the A-line skirt, I would add a pair of fishnet stockings. The black block heel, that you currently own, will work beautifully with this outfit.
Now, as you mentioned, you may also be looking to update your wardrobe. So, inspired by the theme of the wedding, I’ll present you the idea of a versatile dress that can be used both at the wedding reception and for more casual occasions.

Second Outfit Idea:
Inspired by the location, the coming fall season, and overall mood of the wedding reception, I have selected a long dress in a bohemian style, in fall colors with flowers and with shell buttons. You can control how deep you want your neckline to be by buttoning it up or down. You can also control whether you want to show some leg or not. If you decide to wear it as medium V-neck, the double necklace in gold tone will complement the neckline. A red suede clutch makes the red tone in the print pop and will give a romantic feel. Add a cocktail ring to add some extra drama. You can choose between gold sandals (again with a block heel), or the nude color sandals, as either of these sandals can be worn with many different outfits; the options are endless!
Second Outfit Idea (Part 2):
And finally, another look with the same dress, but more casual. It’s all about how you use accessories when you want to change the look of a versatile dress. This time, with a cross body white fringe bag. Red suede loafers to run some errands, or run after your children! Then, complete the look with a gold necklace.
I hope these suggestions give you some guidance when it comes to dressing your body and shopping for a versatile piece. Please comment, share, or both – it will help me a lot!
